Valley of the Queens: tombs, tickets and Nefertari access
The Valley of the Queens is a separate necropolis on the West Bank of Luxor, with its own entry ticket: EGP 220 for adults and EGP 110 for students in 2026. Its most famous tomb is QV66, the tomb of Nefertari. That tomb has been closed since 2024, and no reopening date has been set. Do not build your day around it.
The ticket for the Valley of the Kings does not replace this one. For prices of the neighboring valley, see the Valley of the Kings tickets guide. A guided West Bank tour can combine several sites in one day.

The tomb of Nefertari (QV66): access status
What you can and cannot count on.
Closed since 2024
The tomb of Nefertari has been closed to visitors since 2024. No reopening date has been set, and there is no ticket you can rely on. The picture on this page shows a wall painting; it does not mean the tomb is open.
Old special tickets are not a promise
Special tickets sold for Nefertari in earlier years do not guarantee entry today. If a tour offers Nefertari as an optional extra, ask whether entry is guaranteed for your date before you pay.
Who she was
Nefertari was the chief wife of Ramesses II. The Italian archaeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli discovered her tomb in 1904.

What the Valley of the Queens holds
More than queens.
The valley served as a burial place for more than the wives of kings. Princes, princesses and, in earlier times, officials were buried here as well. One example is QV55, the tomb of Amun-her-khepeshef, a son of Ramesses III. His name is also written Amenherkhepshef.
Which tombs are open changes. Ask at the ticket office which tombs your ticket covers on the day, and check on site which tombs are open before you decide to go in.

Is the Valley of the Queens worth a visit?
It depends on your time and interest.
With one West Bank day
For most visitors, the Valley of the Kings comes first, followed by the Hatshepsut Temple. Add the Valley of the Queens if you have time left.
If you came for Nefertari
Without her tomb, the main attraction of the valley is not available. Check the status again shortly before you travel, and consider other tombs and temples described on the West Bank sights page.
If you are interested in the royal families
The valley shows that members of the royal family beyond the kings had tombs of their own. It is a good addition for visitors who already know the Valley of the Kings and want more context.
Valley of the Queens and Valley of the Kings compared
Two separate sites with separate tickets.
